Sihanoukville

Resort city with a maritime business center
Sihanoukville is a coastal province in Cambodia facing the Gulf of Thailand with about
230km from southwest of Phnom Penh and about 35 minutes by plane. It has attractive tourist elements such as diving spots and remote islands surrounded by sandy beaches. There also great numbers of ferries go to Koh Rong, currently most popular island. Marine products have been exported to neighboring countries such as Thailand, because of the rich fishing ground in Sihanouk. It also has the Sihanoukville International Port, which has the only deep quay in Cambodia, and is a base for maritime trade. Most of Cambodia’s marine imports are done through here, and the number of containers also continue to grow. There is a special economic zone near the port, which is connected to Phnom Penh by rail. A national highway from Koh Kong province, which connects to the Thai border, has also been developed, and from around 2016, large scale development is progressing with the entry of Chinese companies. It is an entertainment city with the most casino hotels in Cambodia. The construction of the first highway in Cambodia connecting Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, 190km, which has begun in March 2019 and was completed in the mid-point of May 2021.
